The State of Florida has begun implementation of the Apalachicola Watershed Agriculture Water Quality Improvements project funded by the RESTORE Council. This $2.2 million project is one of the projects funded from the Council-Selected Restoration Component’s Initial Funded Priorities List. This project will allow landowners to implement FDACS and U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service water quality-focused Best Management Practices (BMPs) which will reduce pollutant loadings by 20-30% per fertilizer application. The program will reduce sediments and pollutants generated from agricultural operations in the area.
